Ben Affleck and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner do not wish to pressure their kids. The pair who got married in 2005 officially got divorced in 2018. However, they continue to co-parent their children, Violet Anne and Samuel. In his latest interview, Affleck has shared that he and Garner do not wish to control their kids’ futures.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner want kids to ‘figure out’ their own career paths
In his joint interview with Matt Damon at The Rip’s premiere, Ben Affleck opened up about his and ex Jennifer Garner’s kids. He told E! News that the former couple is against pushing their kids into a particular career. The “Good Will Hunting” star said, “You put something on your children when you have a public life, and that’s complicated.” Affleck added, “We really want to give them room to figure out what they want to do.”
“I wouldn’t push them into that,” the 53-year-old actor said. He continued, “They’re brilliant and lovely and wonderful, and we love them, and we’re proud of them.” Moreover, the ex-pair hopes the kids “don’t waste their lives acting.” Besides his and Garner’s careers benefiting their kids, the two-time Oscar-winner acknowledged his own upbringing. Affleck stated, “In some way, it was kind of a blessing to anonymity, to struggle, to where we started, which was just in the middle of nowhere.”
Last year, the filmmaker praised the “Alias” star for being a wonderful co-parent. He told GQ, “I’m really lucky that I have a really good co-parent and partner in Jennifer Garner, the kids’ mom, who’s wonderful and great and we work together well.” Moreover, he recalled how he and Garner would talk to the kids regarding the stories they saw about their parents. Affleck revealed, “They would see something on a supermarket stand.” So, the parents told them, “This isn’t always true, because if it were, you would have 15 brothers or sisters or whatever the number of stories is where they said that your mom was pregnant.”
