Leonardo DiCaprio had an awkward interaction with Jacob Elordi’s mother at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards. A TikTok video recently shared by the official page of the award show captured the moment that has quickly sparked fan reactions online.
While mingling with other fellow celebrities, Jacob Elordi introduced his mom, Melissa, to One Battle After Another stars DiCaprio and Sean Penn. The clip shows Melissa cheerfully walking up to Penn, who seemed to take out a chewing gum from his mouth before shaking hands with her. Moments later, the Euphoria actor’s mother turned to meet DiCaprio.
Melissa shook hands with Dicaprio who warmly said, “Hello, nice to meet you.” The Oscar-winning star then pointed at his own mother, Irmelin Indenbirken, attempting to introduce her to Melissa. “My mom,” DiCaprio said to Melissa. However, Elordi’s mom seemed a little distracted and continued speaking with Penn, not noticing DiCaprio’s attempt at introducing his mother.
Elordi tried to bring his mother’s attention back to DiCaprio and his mother, but Melissa seemed engrossed in her conversation with Penn. Fans were quick to note the awkward exchange, reacting to Melissa accidentally snubbing the revenant star and his mother. “Leonardo DiCaprio deserves a hug after that ?,” one fan commented, while another said, “They left him hanging ??.” A third fan wrote, “The way that Leo tried to introduce his mom and was ignored ?.”
Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Jacob Elordi had earned nominations at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. Elordi was up for Best Male Actor in a Limited Series for his role in The Narrow Road to the Deep North, as well as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Frankenstein. DiCaprio, meanwhile, was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical Comedy or Film for One Battle After Another. However, neither actor took home the awards.
