Patrick Mahomes has opened up about the injury that forced him off the field earlier this season. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback tore both his ACL and LCL on December 14, 2025, during the final minutes of the team’s losing game against the LA Chargers. Mahomes has now provided an update on his recovery process and his intentions to get ready for the 2026 season.

The official Instagram page of the Chiefs shared a clip of Mahomes speaking out about his injury and comeback in a Zoom call. The star QB shared that he is “hitting all the checkpoints” the doctor has given and working on “getting the strength and the range of mobility back.”

Mahomes continued, “The doctor kind of gives you goals to get to. I just try to maximize those – they hold me back, because I always want to go a little bit further.” The NFL star then went on to express his wish to make a comeback as soon as possible.

“I want to be ready for Week 1. The doctors said I could be, but I can’t predict what happens throughout the process,” Mahomes stated. “That’s my goal. I’ll try to prepare myself to be ready to play Week 1 and have no restrictions. You want to be out there healthy and give us the best chance to win. I hope to do some things in [Organized Team Activities] and training camp, and be able to do a lot there.”

Mahomes concluded on a hopeful note, saying, “So, I’m excited for the process. It’s a long process, but I’m excited for it.”

The Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing 2025 run ended in the regular season, marking the franchise’s first missed playoffs since 2014. Fans are now looking forward to the 2026 season, hoping that the Chiefs can bounce back stronger.
