Following the release of the documentary, One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, theories have been circulating that the ending of the show was written with the help of ChatGPT.

In one of the scenes in the documentary, the Duffer Brothers can be seen working on a script on their laptop. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the creators seemingly had the ChatGPT tab open while doing so. Thus, fueling rumors that they might’ve used the AI model to help write the ending of Season 5.

While there is no concrete evidence supporting this theory, many fans took to social media to share their thoughts. A user shared a GIF showcasing their frustration and wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “When you watch the Stranger Things documentary and you learn The Duffer Brothers didnt write the script, they let ChatGPT write it.”

Another user posed, “chatgpt wrote stranger things s5. I don’t know whether to cry or laugh.”

A third user commented, “Duffer Brothers really used chatgpt for this script? WTF.”

One user on X mocked the ending of Season 5 in a comment and wrote, “Pretty sure AI would have produced a much better ending than that.”

Commenting on the theory, another fan stated, “Imagine getting caught with ChatGPT tabs in your own BTS doc… that’s a generational fumble.”

Another fan commented, “Wait, so the Upside Down was just a ChatGPT prompt all along? This is a complete buzzkill for the final season hype.”

The theory has emerged amid the criticism that the ending was considered underwhelming by many fans of the series in comparison to those of the previous seasons.
