Matt Damon Admits His Wife Once Thought Ben Affleck Was the ‘Cute’ One

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have told a lot of stories about their long friendship, but a new one involves Damon’s wife, Luciana Barroso, and hits close to home. It starts with the “Oppenheimer” actor and Affleck’s critically acclaimed film “Good Will Hunting.” Years after their marriage, Damon confessed that his wife found Affleck to be the “cute” one upon watching the film, and he made the confession with Affleck sitting right there, ready with a joke.

Matt Damon on wife’s take on Ben Affleck now: ‘She met him and all that went away’

During a recent appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” Matt Damon shared that his wife, Luciana Barroso, once had a very clear opinion about who out of her husband and Ben Affleck she found “cute.” The reveal came up as Stern asked about the night Damon first met Luciana in 2003. Affleck stated that he wasn’t there, joking that it would have ended badly for Damon if he had been, which Damon agreed with, saying it was “completely true.”

“The Odyssey” star then explained that months into dating Barroso, he met her high school best friend and learned the two women had seen “Good Will Hunting” together. He recalled that Barroso’s friend “thought I was the cute one,” while Barroso “thought Ben was the cute one,” adding that she admitted it directly to him, and he teased her about it, saying, “You got the wrong one.” But Damon clarified, “She told me that 23 years ago.”

Stern pressed Damon on whether that detail still sticks in his mind when Affleck comes around. The “Gone Girl” actor jumped in to say he works with Barroso now and never picked up on any flirting, noting, “She’s a great producer and a really good friend, and yeah, I never got that vibe from her.” Moreover, he joked, “I think something I did in real life rubbed it off.” Damon delivered the punchline about where things stand now: “Finally, she met him and all that went away.”

The moment played like an old friends’ back-and-forth, but it also suggested how close they are. Damon and Barroso married in 2005 and share four daughters.
