Good Boy Dog Topples Industry Legends for This Top Honor

Good Boy dog surpassed Hollywood legends to win Best Performance in a Horror or Thriller at the 9th Annual Astra Film Awards. The pup, who goes by the name Indy, beat industry legends Ethan Hawke and Alison Brie.

Good Boy dog beats top Hollywood stars to win this award

Good Boy dog toppled the biggest names in Hollywood to bag an award at the 9th Annual Astra Film Awards. In a pre-recorded message, Indy the dog’s owner and director, Ben Leonberg, accepted the award on his behalf.

The filmmaker said, “Hi, I’m Ben Leonberg, the director of Good Boy, here with my dog, the goodest boy himself. On behalf of Indy, we are so thrilled to be recognized for his work in a movie he does not totally understand he was in” (via Entertainment Weekly).

Furthermore, in his speech, Leonberg expressed his gratitude to Indy for earning a nomination alongside legendary artists. Notably, Indy was nominated alongside Ethan Hawke for The Black Phone 2, Alison Brie for Together, 28 Years Later alum Alfie Williams, Bring Her Back star Sally Hawkins, and Sophie Thatcher for Companion.

Continuing his speech, Leonberg expressed, “Indy is honored to accept this award”. He added, “especially knowing that he’s standing in alongside performers who didn’t even need to be bribed in order to hit their marks.”

Leonberg also expressed his sincere gratitude to the “humans who made his performance possible.” He added, “To Good Boy’s amazing cast and crew, your patience, generosity, and belief made every moment work onscreen. Indy, quite literally, could not have done this without you.”

Notably, Indy delivered a remarkable performance as a caring dog to his chronically ill owner, Todd, played by Shane Jensen. Indy tries to protect his owner from a supernatural entity that has quietly taken over their rural home. Indy stars alongside a Golden Retriever named Max in the movie.
