Good Will Hunting Star Calls Ex Matt Damon 1 of Her Favorite Costars

Matt Damon’s ex-girlfriend praised him while recalling her experience of working with him on the 1997 movie Good Will Hunting. Minnie Driver‘s comments came years after she admitted to being “heartbroken” after the two ended their relationship.

While attending the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, Minnie Driver described what it was like working with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on the 1997 movie, Good Will Hunting.

“I’ve got to say Matt and Ben [Affleck] were pretty fun when they were just getting going, raring to go, just kids,” she told E! Live (via PEOPLE).

While the Oscar-nominated actress had high praise for Damon, this is not the first time she has spoken about him. Driver and Damon were reportedly dating while filming Good Will Hunting, and as per the actress, they broke up “a few weeks” before the 1998 Oscars.

During her interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2024, Driver opened up about her state of mind back then. She said that she was “heartbroken” while attending the Oscar ceremony. “We’d recently broken up. I was nominated. He was nominated. The movie was so amazing. He had a new girlfriend. I was totally heartbroken,” the Speechless alum shared.

She later added, “I was devastated. wish I could have celebrated more, as it was such an amazing moment.”

In Good Will Hunting, Driver portrayed Skylar, Will’s (Damon) love interest. She earned her first Oscar nomination for her role. Gus Van Sant directed the movie with a script by Damon and Affleck. The movie earned not only critical success but was also a massive box office hit.

The movie earned a total of nine Oscar nominations that year, including Best Picture. At the ceremony, Robin Williams won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Dr. Sean Maguire. Meanwhile, both Damon and Affleck took home the Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen award.
