Brendan Fraser discusses the impact of Oscar win on his career

In a conversation with Discussing Film, Brendan Fraser was asked about the Oscar victory impacting his career. The reporter asked, “After that win at the Oscars, what was it about the projects you’re choosing afterwards ?”

The Mummy star stated, “Well, I guess the fallacy is you have the pick of the litter.” The 57-year-old further added, “It’s not true, actually, because it depends on what’s being made…”

“As you know, we’re in a point in the industry right now where we’re reckoning with what is streaming , what is cinema, what is television.” Fraser continued, “I don’t care, I can look at it on my phone on the subway.”

He also explained, “How we consume pop culture, art, content. I mean, there’s an ongoing debate challenge about how we do this, and it’s not unified yet.” Fraser added, “The good news is, good work is good work. You always want no one sets out to make dud necessarily.” He noted, “You want to make the best you can do I feel confident that this is a film that delivers.”

Fraser previously shed light on this topic in an interview with AP News. He stated how things changed for him after the win. “Honestly, I was kind of floating during that whole time without an agent. I was looking for that unicorn project that hadn’t been made into oblivion.”

The veteran actor also talked about the Rental family. “Hikari gave me the opportunity to kind of dovetail from whatever happens in the vacuum after you experience a recognition like that.”

He continued, “In that envelope-opening-reveal moment that we all crave, it could have gone any way. It could have been any of the guys,” he said. Fraser described it as a moment where he felt “things are going to be a little different going forward.”
