No, Barron Trump & Denmark’s Princess Are Not Getting Married

A recent social media post has gone viral after jokingly proposing a potential marriage between Barron Trump and Denmark’s Princess Isabella as a “solution” to U.S. interest in Greenland. The playful idea racked up millions of views, but it’s purely satire, not an actual plan, policy, or diplomatic move. Here’s a look at how the rumor blew up, why it caught fire online, and the reality behind the joke.

Barron Trump and Denmark princess’ viral marriage pitch explained

The rumor kicked off on Jan. 7 when an X account known for metapolitical satire shared a cheeky post suggesting a “simple diplomatic solution.” It joked that Barron Trump should marry Denmark’s Princess Isabella, with Greenland being awarded as dowry. The post blew up on social media, reaching over seven million people and sparking a flood of memes, jokes, and online debates.

Reactions online were all over the place. Some people took it as a funny joke, even referencing history. One claimed this was how things were settled in Austria back in the days of the Habsburg Empire.

The Greenland angle made the joke go more viral. For those not in the know, Greenland, the world’s biggest island, has been part of Denmark since the 1700s, though it runs a lot of its own day-to-day affairs. Denmark still handles defense, national security, and economic policy. Both Danish and Greenlandic leaders have made it clear that Greenland isn’t for sale. The idea got extra attention because Donald Trump first floated buying Greenland in 2019 and later, in 2025, said the U.S. would get it “one way or another.”

Princess Isabella has been catching eyes lately. She’s the oldest daughter of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, and she’s right behind her brother, Crown Prince Christian, in line to inherit the throne. Just turned 18 this past April, Isabella spends her days in  Amalienborg Palace and the stunning Fredensborg Palace.
