Dax Shepard is facing backlash online after a comment about offering to freeze his youngest daughter’s eggs. The actor and comedian recently shared a personal parenting moment in his latest podcast episode, igniting debate among fans.
Dax Shepard sparks backlash over recent comments
In a recent episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, Dax Shepard discussed his 11-year-old daughter, Delty, and her desire to become a mother. The actor also revealed that he offered to freeze her eggs in support of that, a comment that has since drawn widespread criticism.
“Delty was saying how she can’t wait to have a baby,” Shepard said, adding that he believes she would make a great mom. “For people who don’t know, our life is a traveling circus of Delty’s stuffies. The bulk of our luggage as a family are her stuffies,” the actor added.
Shepard stated that he did not want to be judgmental when his daughter talked to him about wanting to become a mother. “She’s saying she wants to have a baby, and I said, ‘When do you think you’ll have your first child? When you turn 18?’ I want to be supportive of whatever. I don’t want to plant any seeds that I’d be judgmental or whatever,” the actor shared.
Shepard then revealed that he would help her if she chose to have a child in the future. “I said, ‘If you want to, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay for you to get your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about that,'” the Parenthood star stated.
The comedian added, “Acknowledging all luck and privilege, obviously, this isn’t an option for most people. But I think given where it’s, the trajectory it would make the most sense.”
Since the episode’s release, many listeners have criticized Shepard’s remarks as “strange.” One fan commented, “Hilarious that a dude thinks women don’t have to think about it just cause they freeze their eggs.” Another wrote, “There are so many factors men don’t consider or know about, but I guess it’s a start.”
Amid the backlash, other fans have come to Shepard’s defense, praising his willingness to support his daughter. “Seriously, this is the best gift we can give our daughters,” one fan argued. Another commented, “This is his way of protecting his daughter.”
