Elon Musk Reveals Why His Rarely Seen Twins Have Such Unusual Names

Elon Musk opened up about the inspiration behind the unique names of his rarely seen twins with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis. The tech mogul shared the reasoning in response to a recent photo that sparked curiosity online.

Elon Musk shares inspiration behind his twins’ names

Elon Musk revealed the inspiration behind the names of his twins with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis. After Tesla Owners Silicon Valley shared a photo of Musk with the twins, he stated, “Strider Sekhar was named after Aragorn” from The Lord of the Rings, explaining that “Strider” is the character’s nickname. He also said Strider’s middle name, Sekhar, came from “great Indian physicist [Subrahmanyan] Chandrasekhar.”

Their daughter Comet Azure received her name from the video game Elden Ring. Musk explained, “Comet Azure is the most powerful spell in Elden Ring.” Musk appeared in the photo kneeling beside his 4-year-old twins, with one child dressed in a SpaceX shirt.

Elon Musk and Zilis also share two other children: daughter Arcadia, born in February 2024, and son Seldon, born in February 2025. Musk has not revealed the inspiration behind their names. He has fathered 14 children with different partners.

He and then-wife Justine Wilson welcomed their first child, Nevada, in 2002, but the infant died shortly after birth. The couple later had twins, Griffin and Vivian, in 2004, followed by triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian in 2006. Musk is estranged from Vivian and once said she was “killed” by the “woke-mind virus.”

Musk shares three children with musician Grimes: son X AE A-XII, daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, and son Techno Mechanicus. In 2024, political commentator Ashley St. Clair gave birth to Musk’s son, Romulus. She told The New York Times in 2025 that Musk had said he would offer his sperm to “anyone” and claimed he had fathered a child with a Japanese pop star. Musk has not publicly responded to those claims.
