Paul Thomas Anderson’s coming-of-age romantic comedy movie’s release date on Netflix is fast approaching. Licorice Pizza debuted in select US theaters on November 26, 2021, before getting a wider release on December 25, and it’ll soon get a streaming release date. Although the movie performed poorly at the box office, it garnered mostly positive responses from critics and currently has a 90% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 326 reviews.

Licorice Pizza begins streaming on Netflix in a few days
Licorice Pizza’s Netflix streaming release date is January 16. The news comes as Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest feature, One Battle After Another, continues its triumphant run in the award season. This Sunday, it won the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay accolades at the Critics Choice Awards.
Like the rest of his directorial ventures, Anderson penned the screenplay of Licorice Pizza. He also produced the movie with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner, with Andy Jurgensen serving as the editor. Predominantly set in the San Fernando Valley in the ’70s, the plot revolves around a complex relationship between Gary Valentine, a teen actor, and Alana Kane, a 20-something woman.
The cast of Licorice Pizza includes Cooper Hoffman as Gary Valentine, Alana Haim as Alana Kane, Sean Penn as Jack Holden, Tom Waits as Rex Blau, Bradley Cooper as Jon Peters, Benny Safdie as Joel Wachs, Ray Chase as B. Mitchel Reed, Maya Rudolph as Gale, John Michael Higgins as Jerry Frick, and Skyler Gisondo as Lance Brannigan.
Aside from Licorice Pizza, the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon-led Netflix original feature The Rip and NBC/TNT crime drama series Southland debut on the platform on January 16.
