Hosts of the long-running CBS Evening News, Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson, are leaving the network. While both had announced their departure weeks ahead, they signed off with a heartfelt message on Thursday.
Maurice DuBois leaves CBS News for good with John Dickerson
On December 18, veteran hosts Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson shared their experiences with CBS before leaving the network for good.
Dickerson initiated, saying, “Finally, tonight, this is our last night anchoring the CBS Evening News.” DuBois added, “We want to leave you with some farewell thoughts tonight. Being invited into your homes each night has been the honor of a lifetime.”
He continued to recall some of the most important news that he got the opportunity to report. “I cannot thank this team enough,” DuBois added. “I’ve walked out of here each night extremely proud of the work we’ve done together. And you, our viewers, I cannot thank you enough for placing your trust in us,” he continued.
Subsequently, Dickerson also shared his experience working on the show alongside DuBois. He continued, “It has been an honor to put the work of our correspondents, producers, editors, and writers before you. And to work with my partner, Maurice, who put his heart into our shared concern, doing right by you.” He addressed the viewers, “Your expectation has been our responsibility and our reward.”
“That it has, my friend,” DuBois agreed. And the two did their outro for the last time, ending with “Thank you for watching. Good night and good luck.”
On December 4, DuBois announced that he’s leaving CBS in an Instagram post. He wrote, “Moving On: December 18th is the day of my last broadcast at CBS News. It has been the Honor of a Lifetime. 21 years altogether, including my time at WCBS-TV in New York City. What a privilege!”
He continued, “To be welcomed into your homes night after night, delivering the news/meeting extraordinary people and telling their stories. I’ll leave filled with gratitude, cherished relationships and amazing memories. A couple weeks to go; until then, see you on The CBS Evening News every night at 6:30.”
This came weeks after Dickerson made his own announcement about his exit.
Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson have been at CBS for 21 years and 16 years, respectively. They took on the role of hosting CBS News on January 27, 2025, replacing Norah O’Donnell.
