Percy Jackson Honors Danny Virtue With Season 2 Tribute

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 2 paid a tribute to Danny Virtue, with the end credits calling him “a true pioneer.” Though not a household name, he was instrumental in the team of the show’s sophomore installment. However, Virtue tragically passed away before the season came out.

Percy Jackson Season 2 pays tribute to late stunt coordinator Danny Virtue in Episode 2

Episode 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is dedicated to Danny Virtue, the veteran stunt coordinator who worked on the show. He passed away before the season had its premiere.

Virtue has worked in numerous movies, including The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and War for the Planet of the Apes. Apart from his skills as a stunt coordinator, he was also a specialist in training horses and choreographing horse stunts.

Notably, this is the very reason Virtue was an intrinsic part of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians team. The second episode of the second season features a chariot race, which would be impossible to pull off without him.

As per TVInsider, the seasoned stunt coordinator cared for all of the horses and handled the stunts with them. Moreover, he and his crew taught the young cast members how to handle the horses.

Sadly, Danny Virtue succumbed to cancer in October 2025, before Percy Jackson Season 2 came out. However, executive producer Dan Shotz revealed that he was able to show him the complex scene he helped create before his passing.

“Danny Virtue was essentially the chariot race architect. Danny Virtue passed away from cancer, I guess, almost a year after we shot it. And he is one of probably the most famous stunt horse whisperers/wranglers in British Columbia, and really one of the most famous in the business,” Shotz stated to the outlet.

The veteran producer even divulged how Virtue helped create the chariot race scene. He added, “We had 20-something horses, we had stables right there on the ground. Those are real stables that we made, set dressing, and Danny was the one who helped us figure out how to make this all practical.”

“It was very hard to lose him. He was very meaningful to us. But I’m so glad that the world is getting to see this chariot race, and we needed to honor him,” stated Dan Shotz. Additionally, he shared a heartfelt message for Virtue after his passing on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Dior Goodjohn, who plays Clarissa on the show, also spoke about how Virtue trained them for the stunts. “We got to go to Danny Virtue’s Ranch. Shout out, Danny Virtue. RIP, Danny Virtue. He was so amazing. But it was really cool to do that during prep because we got to bond, and we all learned how to horseback ride and mount bareback, and it was really, really cool,” she shared.

Featuring a heartfelt tribute to Danny Virtue, Percy Jackson Season 2 Episode 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
