Gene Simmons has made headlines with a comment to anchor Maritsa Georgiou that is now gaining traction all across the internet. He appeared in front of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property to advocate for the American Music Fairness Act (AMFA). This act would ensure that terrestrial radio (AM/FM) would have to pay performing artists and recording owners, not just songwriters and publishers. This legal loophole has allowed radios to use songs for decades without proper compensation.

Simmons was one of the artists who went to advocate for the change. However, he received attention for something else entirely. During his interview with Scripps News reporter Maritsa Georgiou, Gene Simmons took the conversation in a different direction by asking the anchor about her “modelling.”

“By the way, are you still modeling?” the veteran rock star asked (via TVInsider), to which a confused Maritsa asked, “What?” Simmons repeated, “Are you still modeling?” to which the anchor uncomfortably replied, “Modeling? I…I don’t model, sir.” This moment was evidently uncomfortable on live television and has already started a conversation between fans.

Simmons has been married to his longtime partner Shannon Tweed, and the two share two adult children. Before their marriage, Simmons boasted that he slept with thousands of women, a claim he made again later.

Simmons notably made a controversial comment on women earlier, which was a source of a lot of discussion. “Women have a choice,” he told The New York Post back in 2017, “They can dress in potato sacks, [but] as soon as they pretty themselves up with lipstick, lift and separate them and point them in our general direction, they’re gonna get a response. Guys are jacka**es. We will buy them mansions and houses…all because of s*x.” Netizens have labelled Simmons’ latest moment as “cringey.”
