Shortly after the Survivor Season 49 contestants concluded the elimination ceremony and exited Tribal Council, the episode cut to a title card that said: “In loving memory of Sean Foley, our friend and colleague.”

According to his IMDb page, Foley built an impressive 25-year-long career in the entertainment industry, working as a visual effects artist, sound mixer, camera operator, editor, and producer.

Foley had been one of the most seminal behind-the-scenes figures of Survivor, working as a supervising editor since the long-running show’s premiere in 2000. After serving as a full-time editor on the show for its first eight seasons, Foley then worked on its main title design.

He also worked as the Director of Photography from Seasons 22 to 31. For his work on Survivor, Foley received five Emmy nominations for Outstanding Picture Editing for Non-Fiction Programming.

Following over a decade with Survivor, Foley left the show in 2015. Over the years, the late editor and visual effects artist has worked on other popular television shows such as Shark Tank and The Contender.

Foley has also served as an executive producer on multiple notable shows, including the Naked and Afraid franchise, The Age of A.I., and Undercover Boss, among others.

Foley’s official date of death has not been publicly confirmed as of writing. However, his fellow Naked and Afraid executive producer David Story made a Facebook post Nov. 30, saying, “We lost one of the good ones this weekend.” Many have speculated that the post is about Foley. Additionally, Mandy Horvath, a former contestant on Naked and Afraid Season 18, penned a heartfelt Facebook post about Foley’s passing.
