Zac Efron got “defensive” about his appearance on Dancing With the Stars (DWTS) Season 34, as detailed by Dylan Efron. Following Zac’s viral reaction to the judges’ score for Dylan’s performance, the actor clarified that people online are “misinterpreting” him.
Zac Efron felt his reaction during DWTS semifinals was misinterpreted
Dylan Efron recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters Live podcast, where he addressed the viral clip. “I actually did speak to Zac about this because I was just saying it as I thought it was funny,” The DWTS alum shared.
“But then Zac was like, ‘Oh no,’” the 33-year-old continued. “He’s like, ‘They’re misinterpreting it.’ I can’t remember what he was saying, but I think he said that he thought it was a really good dance. So, he’s like, ‘Is that the highest score they would give?’ So, I think he was more like, ‘That should’ve been higher’ or something like that.”
The clip in question was from the DWTS Season 34 semi-final, where Zac Efron was in the audience cheering his brother. After the judges gave Dylan’s performance a score of 27 out of 30, the Baywatch actor was seen asking his mother, who sat beside him, about the score. Fans speculated that he asked, ‘Are those good scores?’ suggesting he might not be familiar with the show’s scoring system.
Nonetheless, Dylan said that he found the entire thing funny. He said, “It was funny regardless, but Zac got defensive.” He said, “No, they misinterpreted what I meant.”
Dylan Efron competed on Dancing with the Stars Season 34 alongside professional dancer Daniella Karagach. During the semi-final episode, the duo performed a tango to Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U.” While they made it to the finale, they ultimately finished in fourth place. At the end of the competition, Robert Irwin and Witney Carson became this year’s winners.
