Kristin Chenoweth’s Queen of Versailles broadway musical is closing in December

Kristin Chenoweth’s highly anticipated Broadway musical, The Queen of Versailles, is wrapping up early, with its final bow on December 21, 2025, at the St. James Theatre (via Entertainment Weekly). Initially set to close on January 4, 2026, the curtain call will now be right before the Christmas-New Year’s holidays.

The confirmation comes barely two weeks after the initial announcement that the Broadway show, which officially opened on November 9, would close sooner than expected. Producers initially planned The Queen of Versailles to run through March 29, 2026. However, harsh reviews of its opening performances shortened the musical’s run time.

Reacting to the early ending, Kristin Chenoweth, who produces and stars in the show alongside F. Murray Abraham, bared her heart out in an Instagram video, bracing for the bittersweet goodbye. “I know some of you may have heard that the Queen of Versailles on Broadway is closing. I just want to say that I’m so proud of this new art that we’ve created, and it’s getting harder and harder to do,” Chenoweth expressed.

Continuing with her speech, the Holidate actress said, “I think about all the shows in the past couple of seasons that have come and gone, that not everybody got to see. I just love Broadway so much, and I love audiences and a live art form”.

Furthermore, Chenoweth expressed her gratitude to those who’ve watched Queen of Versailles at St. James while urging others to catch it before the curtain drops.

Inspired by Lauren Greenfield’s 2012 documentary, Queen of Versailles follows billionaires Jackie & David Siegel’s wild ride of building a Versailles-inspired mansion in Florida. However, their pursuits are negatively impacted by the 2008 financial crisis crushing their empire. Stephen Schwartz’s Oscar-winning tunes, Lindsey Ferrentino’s book, and acclaimed filmmaker Michael Arden’s direction make it a must-watch for theater enthusiasts.
