In a recent interview with Time, after the One Battle After Another star was crowned TIME’s Entertainer of the Year, the actor spoke out about maintaining his privacy amidst his sky-high popularity.

Being Leonardo DiCaprio, as desirable as it sounds, isn’t easy. Since the actor shot to global stardom with Titanic, he has been one of leading men in Hollywood. His popularity never tapered since. This can sometimes come with its own set of challenges.
For DiCaprio, this is especially problematic for his privacy. While speaking to TIME after he was crowned TIME’s Entertainer of the Year, the actor opened up about balancing his privacy with his fame.
“It’s been a balance I’ve been managing my whole adult life,” he said, “And still I’m not an expert. I think my simple philosophy is only get out there and do something when you have something to say, or you have something to show for it. Otherwise, just disappear as much as you possibly can.”
The actor continued, “I was like, ‘OK, how do I have a long career? Because I love what I do, and I feel like the best way to have a long career is to get out of people’s face.”
Leonardo DiCaprio has been prominent from a very young age. This also taught him about balancing privacy and fame. The actor is rarely seen in public when he’s not promoting an upcoming film. Even when he is spotted, DiCaprio is usually in a cap and glasses, or even a mask sometimes.
