Judi Dench discusses Harvey Weinstein and how forgiveness is personal

While speaking to The Radio Times, Judy Dench, who turns 91 today, spoke about her former co-star and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein. When asked for her views, Dench responded saying, “I saw a bit of film of Harvey walking with two sticks and you think, ‘Well…’ ‘I knew Harvey and I knew him well and worked with him, and I had none of that experience — very fortunately for me.'”

Although she has empathy for Weinstein’s victims, Dench added, “I imagine he’s done his time… I don’t know, to me it’s personal — forgiveness.” Weinstein is currently serving time in prison, incarcerated at Riker’s Island.

Many took to social media to react to Dench’s comments. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, one user wrote, “Judi Dench is the ‘I know they don’t like you but they’ve never been rude to me’ type of friend,” reacting to her comments about Weinstein. Another user wrote in a post, “Judi Dench dropping this bombshell before she dies… a new level of evil unlocked.”

A few users also commented on Variety‘s post on X, with one writing, “Sometimes people just need to not speak on things,” while another replied, “Never ask a woman her weight, a man his height, or an old British Woman about sexual assault allegations lol.”
