Netflix Partners With Soccer Icon for Football Talk Show During 2026 FIFA World Cup

Netflix has already started to make preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having recently put pen to paper on a deal with England footballing legend Gary Lineker to distribute his podcast during the highly anticipated event. As such, fans across the globe will now be able to hear the former Tottenham and Barcelona striker analyze games of the biggest sporting tournament in the world on Netflix.

Gary Lineker’s The Rest Is Football podcast gets Netflix deal for 2026 FIFA World Cup

According to a report published by Deadline, Gary Lineker is bringing his The Rest Is Football podcast to streaming for the upcoming soccer World Cup. The footballer-turned-pundit will reportedly host a daily version of his talk show during the event, which will also feature his usual co-hosts, Premier League legend Alan Shearer and ex-Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

With the 2026 World Cup partly taking place in the US, Lineker will host his podcast from a studio in New York for the duration of the competition.

Reflecting on his collaboration with Netflix, the 1986 Ballon d’Or runner-up noted, “We can’t wait to bring The Rest Is Football to Netflix for the 2026 World Cup. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the three of us to do what we love, talk football every day, but on a truly global stage. Expect all the usual analysis, honesty, and plenty of laughs… just with a few more cameras pointed at us, all from the Big Apple.”

While Lineker’s deal with Netflix will allow him to cover every 2026 FIFA World Cup game, the podcast won’t stream any actual footage from the matches due to a lack of broadcasting rights. Fox has acquired the rights to air World Cup games in the US, with BBC and ITV securing the same for the UK.

Notably, The Rest Is Football podcast, which falls under the Goalhanger banner and garners more than 7 million monthly streams, carried out a similar partnership with DAZN during the 2025 Club World Cup.

Hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will commence on June 11, 2026, with the final taking place on July 19, 2026.
