‘Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck’ Soundtrack to Include Unreleased Demos, Skits & More

We’ve heard a lot of loose talk about “new Nirvana songs” and “lost Kurt Cobain tracks” over the years, but it’s highly difficult to imagine much is left to be excavated after the With The Lights Out series. However, with the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release of the film on November 6, its soundtrack accompaniment once again has the rumor mill churning in force.

In an interview with Deadline, Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen has revealed that the soundtrack will officially be released the same day as the DVD/Blu-Ray as the film, November 6. The “companion album” will reportedly include unreleased Nirvana songs, demos, and skits featuring Cobain.

Read our review of the film, as well as our interview with Morgen on the impact of the project.

In an interview with Billboard, Morgen said the album will include “audio montages that Kurt Cobain created” such as interludes and “a sketch comedy routine featuring Kurt voicing all of the characters.”

As for the demos, he adds, those run the gamut “from thrash to ragtime and everything in between” while remaining “familiar to Nirvana fans.”

That sounds like code for “you’ve heard most of this before”. But until we see a tracklist, it’s impossible to know for sure. Morgen reportedly uncovered spoken word audio of Kurt recounting his own teenage suicide attempt, as well as “hours upon hours of never before heard Cobain music.”
