Daft Punk, Touring Or Trolling

Over the past decade, Daft Punk touring rumors are as ubiquitous as Brangelina break-up talk and we all know how the latter turned out. Well, the internet has been abuzz this week with speculation that the French robots will be embarking on a tour in 2017, which would be their first tour in a decade.

The online chatter surfaced again last month on Reddit, when a user discovered a page on the Lollapalooza website that was dedicated to Daft Punk, leading some fans to speculate that the electronic music duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter would be headlining next year’s Chicago festival.

The rumors got “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” this week when a mysterious website alive2017.com popped up. Although the page seems innocuous at first glance, diehard investigators believe that the word “Alive” (which was the same name of Daft Punk’s two other tours) on the home page hides a countdown on the “i.” Further reports suggest that it’s a countdown clock to the date of 27 October, 2016, which is believed to be when the website’s true purpose will be revealed.

Before you start breaking out your paper mache robot helmets take note — the group’s official website, daftpunk.com, has no mention of any of this and Consequence of Sound reports that music insiders say there is nothing to the rumors.

Regardless, we still have new music from the Grammy-winning producers who recently collaborated with The Weeknd on the first single off his upcoming album, “Starboy.”
