Ewan McGregor’s Oscar-Winning Movie Returns to Theaters as Fans Hope for Remake News

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman’s Oscar-winning film is heading back to theaters. Moulin Rouge!, rereleasing in theaters, has fans wondering if a remake of the classic could be in the works. Fans have been anticipating such a project, especially with the updated songs from the 2018 stage adaptation of the movie.

Two of Baz Luhrmann’s celebrated features will be heading to theaters. Romeo + Juliet, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, will also be receiving a rerelease. As the movie celebrates its 30th anniversary, it will be available to watch in theaters on December 5 and 7. Moulin Rouge! will hit theaters on December 12 and 13.

Tickets for both movies are now available online. Participating theaters can also be visited to acquire tickets. To add to the milestone celebration, Luhrmann will personally introduce both films through exclusive pre-recorded welcome greetings.

Moulin Rouge! returns to theaters for its 25th anniversary celebration

Moulin Rouge! was released in 2001. It follows McGregor’s Christian, a young writer in 1899 Paris, who falls in love with Kidman’s Satine. Satine is the star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub.

The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It won in two categories, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Nicole Kidman was nominated for a Best Actress award because of her performance in the movie.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical premiered in Boston in 2018, before coming to Broadway in 2019. The production went on to win 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The stage version of the story was not very different from the movie, but it introduced new songs to the narrative. The interest in a remake among fans stems from seeing these newer songs be added to the movie, along with performances to accompany them.

So far, even after 25 years, there has been no news of a remake. However, given how entrenched in reboots the current movie landscape is, it can be assumed that enough interest could push the right studio to attempt making Luhrmann’s masterpiece again.
