Curry Barker has shared an exciting update for fans eagerly awaiting his upcoming movie, Anything But Ghosts. Following the success of Obsession, the filmmaker is gearing up to explore the horror genre once again, leaving fans curious about what he has in store this time.
Talking to Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently, the filmmaker was asked about the pressure surrounding his next project. Barker replied, “I think it’s a fair question, and I do think that that exists in me.”
He continued, “And I’m just like, I want to prove everyone wrong that that pressure won’t affect my work. And I really hope that it doesn’t, because I get it. And I think we’ve all seen that happen before. And I think I’m gonna get a free pass with Ghosts because I didn’t have that pressure, you know.”
What do we know about Anything But Ghosts’ plot so far?
Directed by Curry Barker, who co-wrote the script with Cooper Tomlinson, Anything but Ghosts is an upcoming American comedy-horror film set in the same fictional universe as Barker’s previous film, Obsession.
The horror-comedy follows two fraudulent ghost hunters, Eddy and Mouse, played by Barker and Tomlinson. They scam grieving families and single dads by faking supernatural phenomena using props and special effects, such as shaking tables and flickering lights.
Their scheme falls apart when they take on a job and accidentally encounter a genuine, terrifying dark entity, forcing them to step up and face real supernatural horrors.
Co-star Tomlinson spoke up about the premise on the Raiders of the Lost Podcast, describing the unique genre blend as “if Key and Peele walked into Hereditary.” He said it’s a movie that starts out as a buddy comedy before descending into severe, genuine terror by the final act.
Besides Barker and Tomlinson, the cast also includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Violet McGraw, and Chris Reinacher, though their roles are yet to be known.
Anything but Ghosts is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 7, 2027.
