A new movie based on competitive sailboat racing is on the way, helmed by a popular Resident Evil filmmaker. Producers of the upcoming feature film have also been confirmed.
Director and cinematographer Alexander Witt has officially signed on to direct Feathering the Wind. Actor, producer, and writer Christopher Atkins and Michelle Alexandria of Light Year Pictures will serve as producers. The creative team also includes veteran cinematographer Jordan “Jordy” Klein Jr., who specializes in aquatic and aerial filmmaking, according to Deadline.
Witt brings decades of blockbuster experience to the project, having served as a go-to second unit director and cinematographer for legendary director Ridley Scott on classics like Gladiator, American Gangster, and Black Hawk Down. His extensive action resume also includes MCU hit Avengers: Infinity War, The Bourne Identity, James Bond tentpoles Skyfall and Casino Royale, and X-Men: First Class.
Feathering the Wind marks Witt’s latest turn in the director’s chair following his work on the 2004 horror action sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse and the 2023 Chilean action thriller Sayen.
What is Feathering the Wind about?
Feathering the Wind is an upcoming coming-of-age film set in the fast-paced world of competitive youth sailboat racing.
Teasing the project’s vision, producer Atkins promised a thrilling cinematic spectacle. “It’s a timeless coming of age wrapped in incredible high-speed youth sailing sequences, an F1 on the water. Alexander [Witt] brings sensitivity to the story and the action experience to bring it to the screen. It’s a perfect match,” he said.
Alexandria echoed those sentiments, stating, “Alexander’s extraordinary body of work brings a level of skill, vision, and prestige that is invaluable. The beauty, speed, and intensity of sailing deserve to be experienced on the big screen, and I can’t wait to see Alexander make this film his own.”
The film remains in early development, with official casting announcements, plot specifics, and release window details expected to be revealed in the coming months.
