Jessica Biel has shared a glimpse of the training behind her action role in Matchbox: The Movie. After a viral Instagram video drew attention to her toned back, the actress shared more details about her full-body workouts.
The October 12 post features Biel training with fitness coach Ben Bruno as she prepared for the action-comedy film. Sharing the video, she wrote, “Behind the scenes of how I got ready for Matchbox. Full body, no shortcuts… plus a healthy amount of gym distractions.”
The video opens with the 44-year-old in a sporty fit, showing glimpses from her gym sessions. However, the training brought a challenge that required her to adjust her routine.

Bruno revealed that Biel “tweaked her back” during preparation for the movie. They then found “creative ways to challenge” her without “reaggravating” the injury. This let the actress keep working on her fitness while accounting for her back problems.
The footage also features some unexpected workout interruptions from Biel’s family. Her younger son, Phineas, appears beside her during a lunge before running into her arms and tackling her. Her husband, Justin Timberlake, also makes appearances in the gym clips. Bruno jokes about Timberlake’s involvement by saying, “I don’t think he’s a trainer, but he definitely knows his way around the gym and has been super helpful.”
Jessica Biel previously discussed returning to physically demanding film work after years focused on motherhood. She told People, “I really felt like I could trust myself to have the physical capabilities to do something like this again. And it was, it just was perfect timing and felt like an opportunity that also my kids would be proud of.” Her comments explain why she wanted an action role at this point in her life.
Matchbox: The Movie stars Biel alongside John Cena, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, and Teyonah Parris. Directed by Sam Hargrave, the action film follows childhood friends drawn into an international mission after a former leader returns as an undercover CIA agent. The story brings the group together to save the world.
