Digger has found a silver lining in Anne Hathaway despite the box-office disaster. The Days of Thunder 2 star gave an honest and vibrant review of Tom Cruise’s latest movie.
Hathaway seems to have liked Cruise’s offbeat portrayal in Digger. Sharing her thoughts about the project, The Odyssey actor stated, “I loved this brilliant movie. It’s smart and trippy and aggressive and funny and ambitious. It’s worth making the time to see and decide for yourself what you make of it. For me? 10/10.”
Cruise plays a 65-year-old oil tycoon, Digger Rockwell, in the Alejandro González Iñárritu-directed project. Interestingly, both the stars will appear in the upcoming Days of Thunder 2. The 64-year-old actor will play Cole Trickle, and the movie is scheduled for release in 2028.
Tom Cruise’s Digger is not doing well at the box office
Digger hit theaters on October 2, 2026, and earned about $8 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend. With a $125 million production budget, the satirical comedy had a disappointing start. Per The Numbers, the Tom Cruise-led film has earned $23 million worldwide, at the time of writing.

Industry trade reports also predict that Warner Bros. might face a loss of about $150-$250 million over its theatrical run. Additionally, Skydance insiders predicted that the project won’t earn more than $40 million worldwide.
Furthermore, the film also failed to impress the critics. It debuted with a 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and now stands at 52%. Audiences have given the film a 73% rating on Popcornmeter.
The critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads, “A stylized satire whose audacious design proves too mannered for some of the laughs to smoothly land, Digger is a bold swing of the shovel by Tom Cruise and Alejandro González Iñárritu that misses as often as it strikes gold.”
