The Impractical Jokers 2 movie has received a hopeful update as star and novelist James Murray reveals that another film is being discussed. Fans who have been asking for more now have a reason to rejoice.
In a recent interview with ComingSoon’s Tyler Treese, the actor-comedian was asked about making a sequel to the 2020 film. He confirmed that the idea has resurfaced among the group in recent weeks. However, he stopped short of confirming that another movie has been approved. He said, “I’ll tell you what. It’s so interesting, that question. We’ve been talking about it. That’s all I’ll say. It has come up in conversation again very recently.”
He added, “I’m not going to say yes, but who knows? We weren’t even talking about it for six years. Now, only the past few weeks, the guys are like, ‘It might be fun to do a movie again.’ We’ll see. Maybe.” While a sequel is not confirmed, the fact that it is being talked about sounds like a hopeful enough update for hardcore fans.
What was the first Impractical Jokers movie about?
Impractical Jokers: The Movie arrived in 2020 as the franchise’s first feature-length film. Directed by Chris Henchy, it starred James Murray, Brian Quinn, Sal Vulcano, and Joe Gatto. Paula Abdul, Jaden Smith, and Joey Fatone also appeared in the comedy.
The story centers on an embarrassing incident involving a Paula Abdul concert years earlier. After becoming famous through their television show, the friends encounter Abdul again. She invites them to a Miami event, but there are only three tickets for the four Jokers.
The group then takes a road trip filled with hidden-camera challenges to decide who stays behind. The movie combines its fictional storyline with real footage, punishments, and callbacks from the series. Warner Bros. said the film would bring bigger twists than the group could achieve in the 30-minute TV format.
The movie arrived in theatres in February 2020. Upon release, it earned about $10.7 million worldwide against a reported budget of $3 million.
Right now, Murray’s comments point to renewed discussions rather than a confirmed sequel. Fans will need to wait for an official announcement about Impractical Jokers 2.
