Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, & Charlize Theron’s Award-Winning Movie Hits Prime Video Today

Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, and Charlize Theron tackled one of Fox News’ biggest scandals. The story of the controversy-inspired drama is about women who faced sexual harassment from a powerful executive at the network. It combines real-life events with fictional elements to show how the scandal unfolded.

Bombshell starts streaming on Prime Video on September 10, 2026. Directed by Jay Roach, the 2019 film centers on the allegations against former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. The film earned three Academy Award nominations and won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

How three Oscar-level actresses teamed up for one story

The film follows several women whose lives became connected to the allegations against Ailes. Theron plays Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, while Kidman portrays former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson. Carlson’s lawsuit against Ailes in 2016 became a key part of the scandal.

Margot Robbie plays Kayla Pospisil, a fictional character who represents the experiences of multiple women at Fox News. Her storyline gives the film a perspective that is separate from the real-life stories of Kelly and Carlson.

The actresses were drawn to the project for its subject matter and the roles it offered. Theron initially found playing Kelly challenging because of her views about the former anchor. She eventually chose to focus on Kelly’s place in the events. “I had to realize that, even through all this stuff, this was a person that did something really incredible,” Theron told Deadline.

Robbie also connected with the screenplay by Charles Randolph. She told Deadline that she started reading it because it offered a strong acting role but finished the script wanting to make the film “just as a person.” Kidman similarly saw the project as an opportunity to highlight women working together.

The production also put considerable effort into recreating real-life figures. Theron underwent a major transformation with prosthetic makeup to resemble Kelly. The makeup and hairstyling work earned Bombshell its only Academy Award win for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Theron earned a Best Actress nomination, while Robbie received a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

Bombshell also features John Lithgow as Ailes, alongside Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Malcolm McDowell, and Allison Janney.

The award-winning drama is now available on Prime Video as of September 10, 2026.
