Following the release of the official trailer for Remain, M. Night Shyamalan fans are speculating that his upcoming supernatural thriller might have a secret franchise connection similar to 2016’s Split. The upcoming supernatural film from the acclaimed director features Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor in leading roles.
After watching Remain’s trailer, several fans are hopeful for a sequel twist similar to Shyamalan’s Split. Viewers were left speechless when the 2016 film’s post-credits scene confirmed that it was, in fact, a continuation of 2000’s Unbreakable.
On social media, fans are trying to connect dots between Remain and M. Night Shyamalan’s The Sixth Sense. They are curious to see if the movie will be a sequel to 1999’s acclaimed horror film. Reacting to the trailer, one fan, named @fastoxcart, on X wrote, “Is MNS baiting us into thinking this is a Sixth Sense situation?”
Another fan, @jay_quake, echoed similar sentiments and wrote, “I really hope this is more in line with your works from Sixth Sense through to Lady in the Water. That gentle, emotional, and subtle style. Philosophical.”
One more user, @NonFlyingIceman, drew parallels with The Sixth Sense and wrote, “If it’s as good as Sixth Sense, it could have another hit.”
What else do we know about M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain movie?
Remain will feature Jake Gyllenhaal as Tate Gordon, who’s an architect and has moved to a small town after leaving a psychiatric facility. He ends up meeting an attractive young woman, Wren, played by Phoebe Dynevor.
The latest trailer didn’t unfold many details regarding the story. However, it teased a mysterious, haunting aspect attached to Wren’s character.
Remain’s official synopsis reads, “When reclusive architect Tate Gordon moves to small coastal town to complete his latest project, he encounters an alluring young woman who pulls him out of his shell and into the center of a deadly mystery that hangs over the town.”
The movie is part of a unique collaboration between M. Night Shyamalan and acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks. The movie was written by Shyamalan, parallel to Sparks’ 2025 novel of the same name.
Remain arrives in international theaters on February 3, 2027, followed by its North American launch on February 5, 2027.
