Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman are reuniting after four decades. The two will share the screen once again in an upcoming Western film. The Beetlejuice actor has also shared a glimpse into what the movie is about.
According to a recent Deadline report, Keaton will direct and star in Rode to Ruin, alongside Freeman. The two actors had previously collaborated on the 1988 drama Clean and Sober.
Rode to Ruin is an upcoming original Western thriller written by R. Dean McCreary. The 74-year-old will play retired Marshal Henry Tillman, who has spent forty years in search of his wife’s murderer. He finally finds a major clue that leads him to Joseph Mulberry, an aging outlaw, played by Morgan. What follows is the unravelling of a buried truth that neither man is prepared to face.
Keaton’s previous directorial works include Knox Goes Away and The Merry Gentleman. Meanwhile, Freeman appeared in the 1992 Western movie Unforgiven starring Clint Eastwood. Additionally, the Seven actor is also starring in Taylor Sheridan’s spy thriller Lioness.
Michael Keaton sees deeper layers in Rode to Ruin
Michael Keaton has shed light on Rode to Ruin’s dramatic story in a recent statement. “When I first read it, I thought, this is really good – and there’s more here for Morgan and me to mine together,” the actor said.
The Batman actor also shared, “Once we talked, it became clear we were on the same page. Just as The Shawshank Redemption isn’t simply a prison movie, Rode to Ruin isn’t simply a Western. It’s a story with a lot of layers that happens to unfold in the West.”
Meanwhile, Rode to Ruin’s producer Lori McCreary called the movie “a deeply human story about forgiveness, revenge, redemption and the choices people make when time is running out.” She added, “The prospect of Michael directing and sharing the screen with Morgan is everything we hoped this film could become.”
In addition to McCreary, Keaton, Kelly Mendelsohn, and Gary Lucchesi also serve as producers. Rode to Ruin is produced by Revelations Entertainment and George & Leona Productions.
