Zack Snyder‘s new movie The Last Photograph has locked its release date, but with an unexpected twist. The upcoming film from the Justice League and Army of the Dead director is a dark, mystery thriller.
The Last Photograph will receive its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 13, 2026, at 6:30 pm. What a TIFF premiere could mean for Zack Snyder’s new thriller
The latest update on Zack Snyder’s movie also confirms that it hasn’t received any distributor for a theatrical release. Hence, the renowned director has decided to go the festival route.
With The Last Photograph arriving at TIFF for a world premiere, it will mark Snyder’s return to a major festival after a very long time.
As for the movie, it features former actors from Snyder’s Rebel Moon movies, Stuart Martin and Fra Fee. According to the official description, The Last Photograph focuses on Ethan Black, played by Martin, a former DEA operative who travels to a remote mountain region in South America to find his missing niece and nephew. He is also determined to take revenge for his dead brother, a diplomat, and his sister-in-law.
“He is joined by Joe Wallace, played by Fee, a world-weary, drug-addicted conflict photographer who claims to have witnessed the kidnapping and brutal murder. As the pair journey deeper into a hostile, alpine landscape, unresolved events from Ethan’s troubled past burgeon in his psyche — and muddy his motivations for taking on this precarious mission.”
Earlier this month, Snyder teased the story with a brief yet captivating clip. The Last Photograph is written by Snyder in collaboration with Kurt Johnstad. It was mainly shot in Colombia, Iceland, and Los Angeles. Additional filming for the movie was done in the Amazon jungle.
Unlike his past projects, The Last Photograph is made on a tight reported budget of just $10 million. However, an official update on the figure hasn’t been revealed just yet.
