Heat 2 Cast Update: Odessa Young Officially Joins Movie, Ashley Judd’s Replacement Eyed

Michael Mann’s Heat 2 seems to have found its new Charlene, the role first played by Ashley Judd in the 1995 film. The highly anticipated sequel has been in development for a long time and will adapt the eponymous novel published in 2022. The upcoming film will serve as both a sequel and a prequel to the original film.

A report from Deadline reveals that Odessa Young is in talks to join Heat 2 as Charlene. Previously, many speculated that the role that Inde Navarrette passed on was Charlene. However, Deadline’s report suggests that Mann’s first choice for Charlene has always been Young. At the time of writing, Amazon declined to comment on the matter.

Young’s most recent credits include films like Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, The Damned, and The Order. She has also appeared in TV shows such as Black Rabbit and The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

What else do we know about Heat 2?

The story of Heat 2 is set to cover events from 1988 to 2000. While it will follow the same characters, the sequel won’t see Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Val Kilmer reprise their roles. Instead, Heat 2 has cast Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale as Chris Shiherlis and Vincent Hanna, according to a recent report. The film has also added Adam Driver, who will reportedly play Wardell, the film’s villain.

The sequel has also added Stephen Graham, who will replace De Niro as Neil McCauley. As for De Niro, the actor recently revealed he hadn’t read the sequel novel that the film will be based upon. Mann posted a photo earlier this year that suggested the film will take place across international locations.

Heat 2 will be produced by Amazon, with a reported budget of over $125 million. It is expected to start filming later this year. Mann, Jerry Bruckheimer, United Artists’ Scott Stuber, and Nick Nesbitt are serving as producers on the film.

Heat 2 currently does not have a release date.
