The Muppets paid tribute to Tim Curry after his death at age 80. The Muppets gave a special nod to the legendary actor’s iconic role as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.
Tim Curry breathed his last on August 25, 2026, at his home in Los Angeles, California. Remembering the actor, The Muppets shared pictures of him as the character from the 1996 family musical.
The post from their official Instagram handle read, “Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer, he was unparalleled, witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.”
In Muppet Treasure Island, Tim Curry played the iconic pirate and lead antagonist. Curry began his career in acting back in 1968 with the West End production of the musical Hair. During production, he met Richard O’Brien, who later created the iconic character Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Curry portrayed it in the 1973 musical The Rocky Horror Show.

Tim Curry played the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 musical comedy film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He took up the role in the 20th Century Fox project after portraying the same in Richard O’Brien’s musical. Wearing a black corset, stockings, and high heels, he played an alien scientist from Transsexual, Transylvania.
Curry also played Pennywise in Stephen King’s It, which aired on ABC from November 18 to November 20, 1990. While talking about the character of the dancing clown, he said, per Dread Central, “Basically, he’s just pure evil, and he can also metamorphose into various other forms–mostly into the image feared most by whoever he’s appearing to.”
He had also portrayed other iconic roles, including Gomez Addams in Addams Family Reunion (1998), Rooster Hannigan in Annie (1982), and Darkness in Legend (1985). The English actor has also appeared in Clue, The Worst Witch, Congo, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, The Three Musketeers, Charlie’s Angels, and others.
