Ryan Gosling Is Making a New Live-Action Flintstones Movie With a Big Twist

Ryan Gosling is bringing the Flintstones to life in a new live-action film. The upcoming Warner Bros. project is still in early development. However, reports are hinting that the movie will be adding a major twist to the classic story.

Ryan Gosling-led Flintstones would have a different focus from the original cartoon. The animated television series The Flintstones was released back in September 1960. The original series had Bamm-Bamm Rubble as a young boy. In the live-action film, Bamm-Bamm Rubble will be the main character and will be shown as an adult in the upcoming film, per Deadline.

Gosling is working on the project with his Open Invite producing partner Jessie Henderson. The project is still in its early stages as the actor and producer are in search of a writer for the film.

This will not be the first time The Flintstones is being adapted to a live-action film. The animated series from William Hanna and Joseph Barbera was adapted to a live-action film for the first time in 1994. The movie was titled The Flintstones. The second film, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, was released in 2000. Both of these films were directed by Brian Levant.

What else is Ryan Gosling working on besides the live-action Flintstones movie?

Ryan Gosling recently starred in and produced the sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, which was released on March 20, 2026. The film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, earned $684,278,218, according to The Numbers, and is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.

Following that, Gosling was announced as Johnny Blaze in Marvel Studios’ upcoming superhero film Ghost Rider under the direction of Shawn Levy. The Canadian actor was announced for the role at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con. Ghost Rider is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 28, 2028.

Gosling and Levy also recently worked together on the sci-fi American space opera, Star Wars: Starfighter. The film is bound for a May 28, 2027 release. Alongside portraying the character of Kade Auberon, Gosling is also one of the executive producers for the film.

The 45-year-old star, alongside Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, is also reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. for a sequel film on Barbie, which was released on July 21, 2023, and became a massive hit with a worldwide box office collection of $1,447,685,476, per The Numbers.
