Sydney Sweeney channeled Tom Cruise as she defied gravity on a biplane that flipped upside down mid-flight. The actress playfully compared her latest high-flying stunt to Cruise’s famous aerial sequences with a short message for the actor.
The 28-year-old actress posted the video on Instagram on Monday, August 24. She wore a red safety vest and protective goggles, with her arms secured to the plane during the flight. Sharing the post, she wrote, “Watch out Tom Cruise.”
The Wing Walk Company, which hosted Sweeney, commented on her post, “You were brilliant….we LOVED having you!.” Her photographer friend Eddy Chen also said, “Thank gawd I didn’t go. Would have passed out.”
Her stunt reminded of Cruise’s wing-walking sequence in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The 2025 film featured him on an 80-year-old Stearman biplane that reached 140 mph at 8,000 feet during the sequence.
Sydney Sweeney’s growing reputation as an action star
Sweeney has taken on several physically demanding roles in recent years. She recently portrayed professional boxer Christy Martin in the biopic Christy, undergoing months of intensive boxing and strength training.
The Anyone But You star trained for three months, spending several hours each day boxing alongside weight training. She gained 30 to 35 pounds for the role, working closely with a boxing coach and a nutritionist.
Sweeney also returned to combat sports training for the role. She had previously practiced jiu-jitsu, grappling, and kickboxing as a teenager. Her preparation carried into the movie’s fight scenes, where she and her co-stars actually punched each other.
Sweeney’s action resume also includes Madame Web in 2024, where she played Julia Cornwall, and the survival thriller Eden, based on the real-life settlement on Floreana Island.
Away from movie sets, Sweeney continues to pursue thrilling activities. In late July, she shared footage from a trip to Australia and New Zealand alongside her boyfriend, Scooter Braun, where the pair went bungee jumping, helicopter riding, and speedboating.
