Clueless Season 2 Already Teased After Alicia Silverstone TV Show Was Previously Canceled

Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in an upcoming Clueless series, and now there’s a new update on the cast. Paramount + recently picked up the project after it was axed by Peacock earlier this year. The streamer has now reportedly given the show a six-episode order.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Jane Wiseman, EVP & Head of Originals for Paramount+, discussed the show’s future. She revealed why Paramount+ decided to make Clueless into a limited series.

“We decided to make it an event series because it deserves to be an event,” she said. “We feel like this is going to be something that people are going to come to in droves — already you can tell — if you want to get the cast back together, if you want to see where everyone is.”

However, Wiseman remained ambiguous about the possibility of the show’s return. “It’s also a mother-daughter story, which I don’t want to overlook because we’re really excited about the next generation of Clueless,” she said. “So, if I can leave it open-ended, I’d like to.”

Wiseman concluded, “But the idea is that this particular version of the show is supposed to be an event. It’s supposed to be open and closed where Cher is in her life and what she and her daughter are up to, and how we can bring the cast back to celebrate it.”

Why a full Clueless cast reunion remains far from guaranteed

During the interview, Wiseman confirmed Alicia Silverstone’s return as Cher in Paramount+’s upcoming Clueless reboot. The exec also said that she would “love” to bring in other notable cast members from the original 1995 film. This includes Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, and Donald Faison.

However, Wiseman clarified that, except for Silverstone, no other original cast member has been confirmed to return. Sources further say that some actors have not been approached yet. Meanwhile, filming of the show reportedly begins in Los Angeles in 2027.
