Michael B. Jordan’s Miami Vice brings Austin Butler and Alden Ehrenreich into the mix
Miami Vice ’85 serves as a modern feature reboot of Michael Mann’s iconic 1980s television crime drama series, which aired on NBC from 1984 to 1990.
The upcoming adaptation stars Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, a role originated by Philip Michael Thomas. Meanwhile, Austin Butler will play James “Sonny” Crockett, previously portrayed by Don Johnson. Last week, sources revealed that Alden Ehrenreich is also set to join the cast. However, it remains unclear which character the actor will play.
The franchise previously received a 2006 feature film adaptation directed by Mann, starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell as Rico and Sonny.
Meanwhile, Miami Vice ‘85 is directed by Joseph Kosinski, with a screenplay by Dan Gilroy. The movie will be filmed for IMAX, with production set to begin this year. Kosinski serves as a producer as well, alongside Dylan Clark/Dylan Clark Productions.
