Fans can stream Bob Odenkirk’s recent action comedy thriller on HBO Max starting today. The streaming release of Normal comes four months after the film arrived in theaters on April 17, 2026.
Normal is a dark comedy action movie directed by Ben Wheatley, with the screenplay by Derek Kolstad, the creator of the John Wick film series. The movie is based on a story that Kolstad co-wrote with Odenkirk.
Set in the fictional city of Normal in Minnesota, the movie follows a new substitute sheriff with a troubled past. After a bank robbery goes south, he launches an investigation into the sleepy town’s dangerous underground crime conspiracy.
Normal stars Odenkirk as the protagonist Sheriff Ulysses. Other cast members include Henry Winkler, Lena Headey, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda, and Reena Jolly, among others.
In an interview with Men’s Health ahead of Normal’s premiere, Odenkirk expressed his wish to explore more action roles. “One thing driving me now is to do a variety of action,” he said. “I would love to do a PG-rated or even G-rated action movie where there’s no blood, and it really is for the whole family. I don’t know if I’ll get to do that, but maybe. Maybe one day.”
