Motor City’s plot is set in 1970s Detroit. It follows John Miller, a working-class romantic whose life goes through a sudden change after he falls for a gangster’s girlfriend. The movie tells his story through limited dialogue, intense action, and a loud rock soundtrack.
The action film hit U.S. theaters on July 24, 2026. Potsy Ponciroli is the director of the revenge thriller, and Chad St. John is the screenwriter. It carries an R rating for strong bloody violence, ghastly images, drug content, sexuality, nudity, and language. It has a total duration of one hour and 43 minutes.
Who else stars in Motor City besides Alan Ritchson and Shailene Woodley?
Shailene Woodley plays Sophia, the woman connected to John’s downfall. Ben Foster, Pablo Schreiber, Lionel Boyce, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Ben McKenzie are also part of the cast. Ritchson also serves as a producer. The role comes after his widely recognized performance as Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series Reacher.

Critics have given the movie a mixed-to-positive response. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists a 62% Tomatometer score from 93 reviews, along with a 65% audience score from more than 250 verified ratings.
Several critics have praised the movie’s physical performances and visuals. The Playlist’s Ankit Jhunjhunwala wrote, “The action scenes and kills are bloody, and the performances and muscles are big.”
Polygon’s Terry Terrones called the movie “a welcome reminder that there are still other ways to tell an action story.” The Wrap’s Steve Pond said, “You’ve heard of silent movies? This is a loud movie.”
