The official trailer for Verity is out, featuring Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway in the psychological thriller adaptation. As the clip unfolds, Johnson’s character uncovers a series of unsettling secrets surrounding Hathaway.
The trailer opens with Johnson visiting the eerie Crawford estate. The Odyssey actor plays the central role of renowned author Verity Crawford, while Johnson stars as struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired to complete Verity’s unfinished book series following a tragic accident.
Upon her arrival, Lowen is told that Verity is unable to walk or speak following an accident. However, towards the end of the trailer, the Madame Web actor comes across a chilling truth. Verity Crawford is able to move.

The synopsis of the movie, per Cosmopolitan, reads, “Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, this seductive, psychological thriller follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.”
Anne Hathaway’s Verity character may not be as helpless as she seems
The movie is adapted from Colleen Hoover’s 2018 book of the same name. Hathaway’s character brings in the most mysterious elements in the trailer. While initially it is believed that she cannot move, later on, it seems untrue. During her stay in the Crawford estate, Ashleigh repeatedly catches Verity seemingly moving within the house. Thus, Hathaway might not be totally helpless as it appears.
Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity features a star-studded cast. Apart from Hathaway and Johnson, Josh Hartnett (Jeremy Crawford), Nathan Tylutki (Stephen), Ismael Cruz Córdova (Corey), Brady Wagner (Crew Crawford), Daniel Echevarria (Alex), and Asel Swango (Frida) are also part of the Verity lineup.
Verity is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026.
