Danny Boyle‘s acclaimed Rupert Murdoch biographical drama movie Ink has received both its theatrical and streaming release dates. Ink adapts James Graham‘s Tony-winning play of the same name from 2017. Graham has also written the screenplay for the upcoming movie.
Ink is scheduled to hit theaters on December 11, 2026, landing in the busy awards-season window ahead of the holidays, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Following its theatrical run, the film lands on Netflix in the US and Latin America on January 8, 2027.
Before it makes it to theaters, Ink will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The movie will kick off the 83rd festival on September 2 and will compete for the Golden Lion.

Ink follows media mogul Rupert Murdoch and editor Larry Lamb as they build a gritty, sensational tabloid empire that reshapes British journalism. Set in 1969, Murdoch buys a struggling broadsheet newspaper titled The Sun and hires editor Lamb to revamp it. Together with a team of misfits, they invent a different approach to tabloid journalism focused on celebrity gossip, sports, and punchy headlines. The film aims to showcase how their model reshaped the global media.
The Oscar-nominated Guy Pearce stars as Murdoch, while Jack O’Connell will play newspaper editor Larry Lamb. Golden Globe winner Claire Foy rounds up the cast.
Danny Boyle directed the movie from Graham’s screenplay. Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross, Michael Ellenberg, and Boyle serve as producers. The House Productions, Media Res, Decibel Films, and StudioCanal movie will be distributed by Netflix in the US.
Boyle has previously described the story as one about two men who helped create a new form of tabloid journalism long before social media came into play. He said, “Long before Fox News, clickbait and Truth Social; decades before Twitter, Facebook, Google and OnlyFans, these two men created a new tabloid which against all the odds became the biggest selling newspaper in the world.”
Ink has also been announced for the 2026 Toronto Film Festival, taking place between September 10, 2026 and September 20, 2026.
