A new rumor on MCU’s X-Men reboot suggests that Adam Driver will be one of its villains. While many painted him as the perfect Magneto, the actual rumor is even better than that.
As of now, a new X-Men movie in the MCU is in the works. Pretty much nothing about the project is known, though, outside of a few details. Thunderbolts*’s Jake Schreier is set to direct the movie, with Lee Sung Jin tapped as the writer. The movie’s cast remains totally secret for now, but rumors continue to swirl about who might join the franchise as its newest group of mutants.
Adam Driver’s name has been one that’s been thrown around for some time. For the most part, he’s been pointed to as a potentially perfect pick for Magneto, the X-Men’s most iconic villain. However, a new rumor suggests that Driver is being looked at, but actually for the role of Mister Sinister. While not the role that everyone thought, this would actually be a much better choice for a number of reasons.
Adam Driver would make a perfect Sinister for a number of reasons
For one, Driver looks the part of someone who could portray Minister Sinister really well. Driver is known for his tall stature and broad build, which suits Sinister perfectly. Driver has also already played the role of a brooding and menacing villain in the Star Wars universe, so we know he has the ability to turn on a more villainous performance if asked.
Despite not reaching the status of Magneto, Sinister is one of Marvel’s greatest villains on his own, and is probably the most well-regarded X-Men villain outside of Magneto himself. Speaking of Magneto, Driver not playing the role also allows Marvel to broaden its search a bit. Locking in Driver as Magneto would’ve forced Marvel Studios to essentially lean into a more younger-focused team.
Instead, they could look to cast an older actor as Magneto, as traditionally the character has been portrayed as an older figure who has become jaded by the world’s outlook on mutants around him. This would furthermore allow Marvel Studios to then go younger with the rest of the core X-Men, creating an interesting dynamic between the group. While some fans remain skeptical about the possibilities of Driver playing Sinister, this role actually fits him better than Magneto ever could.
