Three of Denzel Washington’s popular action thriller movies from Sony Pictures have found a new streaming home on HBO Max. All three films were directed by acclaimed filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, who has been the Oscar-winning actor’s long-time collaborator since 2001’s Training Day.
What Denzel Washington movies are now on HBO Max?
As of today, HBO Max subscribers can finally watch 2014’s The Equalizer, 2018’s The Equalizer 2, and 2023’s The Equalizer 3. In the movies, Washington plays the role of Robert McCall, a retired U.S. Marine and former DIA intelligence officer who tried to leave his dark past behind after his wife’s death. However, after witnessing helpless ordinary citizens getting exploited by criminals, he decides to step in and become a vigilante.
The Equalizer franchise also starred Chloë Grace Moretz, David Harbour, Bill Pullman, Melissa Leo, Haley Bennett, Pedro Pascal, Dakota Fanning, and more. It was based on the classic 1980s TV show of the same name from creators Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. The R-rated action franchise has a combined gross of over $570 million worldwide. The third installment is currently its highest-rated sequel with a Certified Fresh score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses.
