An acclaimed Oscar nominee has joined Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie‘s Ocean’s Eleven prequel. The movie will follow two con artists as they pull off an unexpected heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
Who has joined the cast of the Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie?
Wagner Moura, who received an Oscar nomination for his performance in The Secret Agent, has joined the cast of the Ocean’s Eleven prequel, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The actor is also known for his work in Narcos, Civil War, and Dope Thief, among others.
Cooper is directing the Ocean’s Eleven prequel and starring in it alongside Robbie, who is also producing alongside Tom Ackerley. The filming will kick off in July in Paris, before moving to the south of France.
Character details are still kept under wraps. However, Robbie did tease some plot elements earlier this year. Speaking at the CinemaCon, she mentioned that the focus of the story is on Danny Ocean’s parents. In the original movies, the iconic character was played by George Clooney.
“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows,” said Robbie. “You’ll see them in their prime, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” While it’s not confirmed, Robbie and Cooper are rumored to play Danny’s parents.
The franchise is also expanding on another front, with Clooney working on the next movie to revive the original Ocean’s trilogy. Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle are all set to return.
The prequel was initially supposed to have Lee Isaac Chung and Jay Roach as directors. But they eventually left the project, and Cooper eventually took over.
Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie, from Warner Bros., is set to release in theaters on June 25, 2027.
