Bradley Cooper will be next seen in a film about the January 6 riots. The Academy Award-nominated actor is teaming up with one of Hollywood’s celebrated filmmakers for the film.
What do we know about the January 6 movie with Bradley Cooper?
Three-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn has decided to direct a film about the January 6 Capitol riots (Deadline). Bradley Cooper is in talks to lead the film, where he will portray a real-life cop who gets “caught up in the Capitol attack”.
The film is being described as “an unexpected story about friendship” which will “function on multiple levels”. Instead of solely focusing on the January 6 attacks, the film will focus on the cop’s “early journey, one that led to him later becoming an American hero in the eyes of many.” Penn is also writing the script alongside directing the film.
The report points to an early hearing of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attacks that Penn attended. At the time, he stated he was there to observe the proceedings, but was also seen speaking with Michael Fanone, one of the Washington D.C. law enforcement officers who defended the Capitol. Deadline suspects Fanone may be the subject of Penn’s upcoming film, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Penn was last seen in last year’s best picture winner, One Battle After Another. The actor and filmmaker has also directed several acclaimed films like Into the Wild, The Gunman, Superpower, and more.
Cooper’s next project will be Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s first animated venture. He is also directing and starring in the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, to be released in 2027.
There is no release date attached to the Bradley Cooper-led January 6 movie. It will be produced by Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth for Projected Picture Works. The film is eyeing a mid-2027 production start date.
