5) Power Ballad – 87% RT

Power Ballad will arrive in theaters this Friday, June 5. So far, it has already garnered a Fresh score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Early reviews are praising the leading stars, Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, for their strong chemistry and comedic charm. The musical dramedy’s soundtrack, particularly its earworm ballad, has also been receiving recognition from many critics. In addition, some critics are also commending director John Carney for delivering another crowd-pleasing hit with the film’s heartfelt and funny story.

4) Pressure – 88% RT

Pressure is now officially playing in theaters. The World War II drama currently has an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 84 reviews. Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser and Emmy nominee Andrew Scott’s respective portrayals of General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg are getting high praise from critics. Their compelling performances effectively bring the film’s intense, character-driven story to life.

3) Backrooms – 89% RT

Backrooms is now playing in theaters worldwide. The R-rated horror hails from up-and-coming filmmaker Kane Parsons in his feature directorial debut. It currently has an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of this year’s highest-rated horror films. Many critics are impressed with Parsons’ clever direction, describing it as a strong and ambitious debut. Led by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, the film’s ensemble cast is also getting recognized for their phenomenal performances.

2) Obsession – 96% RT

Obsession is now in its third week in theaters. In addition to its massive box office success, it has now become this year’s highest-rated horror movie to date with a Fresh score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics and audiences are captivated by the film’s disturbing yet intriguing cautionary tale. First-time movie director Curry Barker is getting praised for masterfully crafting a low-budget horror film into an unexpected blockbuster hit. It features breakout performances from leads Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, whose portrayals of Bear and Nikki give a long-lasting impression on the audience.

1) Carolina Caroline – 100% RT

Carolina Caroline will finally be out in theaters this Friday, June 5, for a limited theatrical release. So far, Samara Weaving’s latest crime thriller has already garnered a perfect Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Most critics are impressed by Weaving and Kyle Gallner’s charismatic performances and electric chemistry. Even though it doesn’t reinvent the Bonnie and Clyde story formula, critics are still praising director Adam Rehmeier for delivering an exciting and well-executed take on the genre.
