Marvel Launches Guardians of Infinity in December

Ever since the Guardians of the Galaxy movie became a smash hit last year, Marvel Comics has been trying to make the Guardians comic book franchise take off as well. So now in addition to the core Guardians of the Galaxy comic, the Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, and Gamora ongoing series comes Guardians of Infinity, a new series that unites three generations of Guardians of the Galaxy!

Casual comic book fans are only aware of the Guardians of the Galaxy team that was used in the movies. But in 1969, the first Guardians of the Galaxy team took place in the far future of the Marvel Universe. For most of their existence, Vance Astro, Martinex, Charlie-27, Yondu, Starhawk, Aleta, and Nikki were the Guardians of the Galaxy who appeared in other Marvel titles and they even headlined their own comic book during the ’90s. The modern Guardians team didn’t appear together until 2008.

Dan Abnett is writing the Guardians of Infinity series for Marvel, and he has ties to both incarnations of the Guardians. Abnett co-created the modern Guardians with his former writing partner, Andy Lanning in addition to writing Guardians 3000, the recently concluded series that followed the original team.

According to ComicBook.com, Marvel’s solicitation text for Guardians of Infinity reveals that Carlo Barberi will be the series artist, and that a new, previously never revealed team of Guardians will make their debut in this time travel adventure that unites the three teams from across time and space.

GUARDIANS OF INFINITY #1

IN THE INFINITE EXPANSE OF TIME AND SPACE IS THERE ROOM FOR MORE GUARDIANS? YOU BET THERE IS!

Defending the galaxy is a good gig, but Drax isn’t thrilled with the combat hours (not enough of them) and Rocket isn’t thrilled with the compensation (not enough of it). They’re off on an adventure to supplement both, and Groot is happy to come along. But instead of the perks they want, they’re about to get more trouble than they can handle. Good thing the Guardians 3000 are on hand to help! But what about…THE GUARDIANS 1000??!!

Also in this issue, Latour and Cheung tell a one-off story of Ben Grimm and Rocket Raccoon, stuck on a planet where culture is based on Earth-style professional wrestling…but the stakes are life and death! THIS AIN’T KAYFABE, BROTHER!

Guardians of Infinity # 1 will be released in December.
