Warren Ellis & Jason Masters Join Dynamite’s James Bond Comic

Nine months ago, Dynamite Entertainment announced its deal with Ian Fleming’s estate to bring James Bond back to comics. Today, those plans materialized in a big way.

Ahead of Comic-Con International, Dynamite revealed that writer Warren Ellis and artist Jason Masters will be the creative team on James Bond 007, Dynamite’s first ongoing James Bond comic book.

Masters is coming off a stint on Marvel’s Wolverines title, while Ellis is one of the most popular comic book writers in the world. Ellis is no stranger to espionage action, having penned the creator owned comics RED and Global Frequency which also explored that genre. RED even spawned two Hollywood movies!

Although Dynamite wants Ellis on James Bond 007 for at least a year, he is currently only confirmed for the first six issue storyline called “VARGR.” According to Dynamite, the story picks up with “James Bond returns to London after a mission of vengeance in Helsinki, to take up the workload of a fallen 00 agent… but something evil is moving through the back streets of the city, and sinister plans are being laid for Bond in Berlin.”

While speaking with Comic Book Resources, Dynamite Editor-in-chief, Joseph Rybandt also revealed plans for James Bond beyond the newly announced ongoing series. “We have our writer for the adaptation of Casino Royale who just started writing the script,” said Rybandt. “We’re also planning on an ‘origin’ series of graphic novels to be set in the period of the original novels. Our adaptations will be set in their original time period as well. Our periodicals, here with Warren Ellis, are set in the now.”

James Bond 007 will be released in November 2015, just in time for Bond’s upcoming cinematic adventure, Spectre.
